Strapless dresses have had quite a journey if you ask me. Back in college, I lived in a great American Eagle tube top or strapless going-out dress. Then, as I got older, I kind of quit the style. Who wants to wear a strapless bra when they don't have to? A strapless dress just felt like something bridesmaids would be forced to wear in floor-length chiffon. Not a style I'd pick for myself in normal life. But alas, I have turned a corner and now welcome the return of the strapless dress.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not about to trade out all my sleeved dresses for strapless styles, but having one or two in my closet that I can wear out feels fun and takes me out of my comfort zone. Also, my small boobs can get away without wearing a strapless bra on certain strapless dress styles which is a total win. But if you need to wear a bra, I asked my followers on Instagram and SO many said this one is the absolute best!
The Return Of The Strapless Dress
So why has the strapless dress returned? As with all fashion, trends are cyclical. We went from strapless to sleeves to one shoulder to off the shoulder and back again to no sleeves. It's just the way cycle of style works and I have to say, I love it! I think embracing what is old as new again gives trends new styles for a new generation and allows us to revisit old pieces we once loved. Although let's hope that bubble necklaces don't return again…my neck still hasn't recovered from carrying those bad boys around for so long.
Now that I'm older though, I prefer to work on balance with my looks a bit more than I did in my youth. Meaning that if I'm wearing a dress that has an open top like a strapless dress, then prefer a midi length for the hemline. But that's just me! If you want to show off those legs and collarbones, go for it! I absolutely love the look of this mini strapless dress so someone please buy it and wear it for me please and thank you!
Because this dress is a bit on the longer side, I added some additional height o my look with these platform espadrille sandals. Unfortunately, they're old J.Crew but I promise to keep checking to see if they bring them back because they're the best heels ever. In the meantime, you can shop more espadrille wedges I love in this fun under $100 roundup!

My polka dot strapless dress here is seriously so fun for summer. With its open-back detailing and festive print, it reminds me of this black and white polka dot number but it's a more casual, daytime fashion sister if that makes sense. If you're looking to try your own strapless dress for summer, I got you! Here are a few styles I've found that I absolutely love that are all under the $100 mark.
